With the direction the whole photography industry is going, to stay in the game photographers everywhere are having to look at different ways to keep work coming in the door. For some photographers, they are looking to branch out into other markets, while still focusing on the niche that they are known for; other shooters are looking at shooting new subjects (moving from a still life shooter to shooting lifestyle portraits); and a lot of photographers are also moving into shooting video as well as stills.
Part of what I love about photography is that at the heart of it, it is about solving problems in a creative way and by moving into a new genre or developing a new skill set is actually fairly easy to do as a photographer. After all, all the skills and knowledge that you develop over time around one genre can be applied to the new genre you want to enter.
For me, I have found that though I still love shooting sports and getting out into the wild, I also want to be at home a bit more regularly, so I am in the process of developing a portfolio of family portraits and will soon be offering portrait packages in addition to my lifestyle and action shots.
